Appointments

Q. What’s the best way to make a booking?

A. Send me a message through the contact form, or Facebook.  Please book in advance as far as possible to get your preferred day time. If I’m busy I will have a waiting list for appointments in case of cancellations. I do try my best to fit everyone in.

Q. Where are you located?

A. North Brisbane – approx half way between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.  Accomodation options are coming soon! By appointment only. For repeat clients I also do mobile work where possible (additional fee applies).

Q. How long does it take to make new dreadlocks?

A. This depends on the length and type of hair you have, thin fine hair generally takes more time than thicker coarser hair. Contact me for an estimate. As a general guide from six to eight hours +. Please keep in mind that quality work is our priority and quality work takes time…a loooong time! Bring plenty to do while your dreads are made and snacks…lots of snacks. Helps make the time pass quicker.

Q. Can I spread out the work over a couple of days or does it have to be done all in one day?

A. It is much easier for both of us if you have long hair to create dreads over a couple of days. Its hard to sit for a long time, although you can move around and have lots of breaks most of us get fidgety or uncomfortable after a few hours!

Q. What if I get hungry?

A. Please feel free to bring food and drink with you to eat while I work. If it’s a big day I will stop for a lunch break too. Otherwise I’m thinking about food more than your dreads!

Q. I can’t sit still all day can I have breaks?

A. Of course you can. I work from a home studio so you can have a quick stretch whenever you like.

Q. What should I do if I can’t make it?

A. Please call to cancel. I do ask for a booking deposit and require 24 hours notice for a maintenance cancellation. For new dreadlocks 48 hours is required. If you give the required notice I will transfer your booking to another appointment, otherwise your deposit is forfeited.

Q. Can you come to my place?

A. Please ask about your options here. For repeat clients I offer a mobile service, depending on availability and limited areas. These areas include Caboolture, Burpengary, Morayfield, Narangba, North Lakes, Redcliffe, Bribie Island, Caloundra and surrounds.Travel charge applies. *** Please note that as of January 2021 this service is on hold until further notice.

Q. How much is maintenance and repair of my dreads?

A. I charge an hourly rate for maintenance and repairs. How long it takes depends on the condition of your dreads, how they were made and how long since you have had a tidy up. Average is 1-3 hours. Minimum charge is only $75. Hourly rate is $70.

Can I just get a certain amount of maintenance done according to my budget?

A. Sure. You could always make a couple of appointments and spread them out according to your needs.

Maintenance and Repair

Q. What is the difference between maintenance and repair?

A. Maintenance is the pulling in of fuzz and new growth that you want to dread up into your dreads. Repairs can include fixing of thin spots, division of extra large dreads, sectioning issues and reposition or gradual redirection of dreads. It also can include those lumps and bumps most people get within dreads at some point.

Q. How often do I need maintenance?

A. This also depends on your hair type and other factors as well as your style preference. It is something that only you can decide, but as a guide more frequent for new dreads and or very fine hair if you wish to keep your dreads tidy. I would suggest  monthly for new dreadlocks and allow a couple of hours as a guide – but this is totally up to you. Also, some wish to have their new growth pulled in nice and tight whereas others prefer a more natural look. As your dreads mature you may like to leave the maintenance longer. It is very important to have regular maintenance in the first 6-12 months.

Q. How do I prepare for maintenance?

A. Please wash your hair the day before your appointment (or two days before if your dreads take longer to dry) with an appropriate shampoo and come to your appointment with dry hair. I will send you through an information sheet to guide you. On more mature dreads please follow the same procedure but I also need to know if you have been using wax or other products in your dreads and how they were made as it will impact how we approach your maintenance.

General

Q. What is the minimum length to get dreads?

A. 15cm is minimum and also depends on hair type. I would suggest shoulder length preferably.Keep in mind that very short hair can create small dreads that stick out a bit initially but they relax pretty quick. Short little dreadies look cute but can require more maintenance. Or you could have extensions put in while your dreads grow in length.

Q. My hair is bleached/coloured is this ok?

A. Yes. Chemically treated hair does tend to be drier though and can be fragile. Discuss with me prior to your appointment if you are concerned.

Q. Can I have partial dreads or singles?

A. Yes. Single dreads can be hidden amongst your hair so you can show them or not. Partial dreads also look great if you have an undercut and yes they are cheaper than full head dreadlocks. Send me some pics or come and see me for a quote.

Q. Can you do extensions at the same time as you make my dreads?

A. Yes I can.  A colour consultation is required and I also require a deposit for extensions or you are welcome to buy your extension hair and bring along to your appointment.

Other

Q. Do you have dreadlocks yourself?

A. Yes I do and I love having them.

Q. If I am under 16 can I get dreads?

A. Sorry, at this time I am not offering appointments for Under 16’s.
