Dreadlock Extensions

Dreadlock extensions can be added to give instant length to your dreads. I use synthetic hair ,human hair or wool dreadlocks and either make the extensions or you can provide your own extensions to be added. A dreadlock extension is made to look like a dreadlock and permanently attached to the end of a dreadlock.

There are a wide range of colours available and also many combination colours in all types of extensions. Synthetic and wool hair looks very realistic when made into dreads,  both are also very light weight and dry relatively quickly when washed. Synthetic extensions cannot be dyed however, so be sure to select the colour you are happy with.  Wool extensions can be custom made in any colour which is also designed to be the final product. Wool is the most economical as far as cost too. There are quite a few ways extensions are made, however I only make them the same way as I make dreadlocks which gives you the most natural realistic look. I make each extension by hand to order and I have developed a method to prepare the synthetic to soften it and make it more “real” looking. This is why extensions are quite a big investment – they take many hours to make and then many hours to install. Just remember that with the method I use – you will not lose half your length when I make your dreads…so you may not even need extensions.

 

Extensions can also be made from your old dreads that have been cut off, so if you change your mind and have kept your dreads they can be reattached. The process of adding the extensions is similar to how we make dreadlocks – with only a comb and crochet hook, we don’t sew them in or use wax or glue.

 

I can add extensions to your pre existing dreadlocks (however, on very mature or dense dreadlocks this is not always possible) or make your dreadlocks and add in the extensions after. I will consult with you to quote and to show you colour samples. Please be aware that having dreads and extensions made is a lengthy process if done well.  My aim is for you to have long lasting and realistic looking dreads.
